Pursuing a career in medicine has been a dream of mine. I would have never imagined that this would take me to Guyana. The challenge of an international medical student is not only you are starting medical school; you are preparing for life in a country you know nothing about it. So like anyone, I was nervous and anxious about the whole adventure. Nevertheless, I was excited about the opportunity to submerge myself in a new country and culture and study medicine at the same time. One of the things I love most about GMU School of Medicine is the importance of different learning styles beyond the classroom: from team-based learning activities with our peers to applying what we are learning at the Clinical Skills Education and Technology Center. By applying our knowledge base in a replicated patient interaction or to solve clinical case studies, we can refine our skills and really congeal our understanding of the medicine. A large amount of interaction between students and professors during my studies at GMU was unexpected but so beneficial. Students have open communication with lecturers and course directors and there are a variety of ways that students can influence and improve their education. Surveys allow students to provide honest and constructive feedback and student-elected curriculum chairs provide another route of communication between course directors and students. Faculty and administration are constantly working directly with us to make the medical school the best experience it can be. I am constantly impressed by how seriously our feedback is assimilated into day to day student life. This course taught me a lot, both how to organize my studies but also to respect and appreciate all the people around me. I would recommend this course to all students who want to achieve their goals with amazing teachers by their side. All professors are very professional and give personal attention and all the help needed to get through the course. The course is the best start for anyone who wants to start on their medical career. I highly recommend GREEN HEART MEDICAL UNIVERSITY to everyone that is aspiring to go study medicine abroad.
