Advanced Standing Policy

Students in the classroom

The advanced standing policy only applies to applicants who have completed High School level education and are applying to pre-medical (5 year MD program), nursing and pharmacy programs.

Credit is awarded if coursework is relevant to the student’s chosen course of study and determined to be comparable in course content and level of instruction to GMU. All scores and relevant documents should be submitted to the Admissions Office for consideration. Transfer credit from all sources may not exceed a total of 40 credit hours.

Advanced Placement Credits

GMU accepts Advanced Placement examinations that are administered through the College Board to provide documentation of a level of achievement that qualifies a student for advanced standing.
Credit is awarded for AP courses taken at the high school level if certain requirements are met. Credit awarded by another college or university for AP will be only transferable with proper documentation.

GCE Advanced Level examinations

GCE Advanced A-level examinations (from Cambridge) indicate a level of achievement that may qualify a student for advanced standing. Credit is awarded for A-level examinations on a selective basis if certain requirements are met.

International Baccalaureate program (IB)
