GreenHeart Medical University (GMU) is an independent institution of tertiary level education, chartered by the government of Guyana with programs in medicine, nursing, and pharmacy.

 

Named after the famous rainforest tree of medicinal properties “Greenheart” and located in the historic city of Georgetown, Guyana, GreenHeart Medical University (GMU) started its operations in 2005 to address the need of education in the field of health sciences in Guyana and the overall region.

 

Managed by a newly appointed Board of Directors under advisement of highly qualified medical educators, administrators, and acclaimed physicians, GreenHeart is becoming a regional leader in health care education, research, and health services.

The University offers quality educational programs in health sciences, including medicine and nursing, that integrate professional skills, career-focused education and hands-on practice. Our programs enable our students to develop and achieve their personal and career objectives.

 

Our educational philosophy is to help our students understand the fundamentals of scientific principles that engender scientific thinking. Keeping with the latest developments in the field of education, medical sciences and research, we constantly improve our curriculum with innovative educational products including early integrated clinical exposure via longitudinal clinical care experiences.

 

Our students are supported by mentorship programs and focused preparation for different professional licensing examinations and screening tests including CAMC, USMLE, MCCQE, PLAB, MCI tests etc.

 

The university is constantly developing new partnerships and affiliations with leading institutions around the world. These affiliated institutions are involved in health sciences education and research, furthering our vision of becoming an internationally recognized regional research institution.

  • Faculty: GMU’s permanent and adjunct teaching faculty is composed of full and associate professors with PhDs, MBBS, MDs, and FRCS degrees

On behalf of myself, our staff and faculty, I would like to thank you for your interest in our University.

Although modern health care has come a long way in the past few decades, there is still much to be discovered and we continuously strive to ensure that our students gain knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of the field.

GreenHeart collaborates with distinguished medical educators to keep ourselves up to date with the latest developments in the field of health care education.  We have designed our programs and constantly try to improve them with innovative educational strategies to ensure that students’ interests in their field of choice are promoted, ensuring they develop strong foundations, gain in-depth knowledge and hands-on experiences.

We strongly believe that the strong clinical exposure and training in any health care discipline holds a position of critical importance. GreenHeart’s students have access to accredited teaching Clinical Facilities for clerkship training that includes the option of training at affiliated ACGME hospitals in United States.
